Guthries Auto Care
John and Christine Sherman are the owners of Guthries Auto Care, well known in Wanganui and throughout the Manawatu for its friendly team, expert knowledge, and excellent service.
Guthrie’s Auto Care is an AA Licensed Repairer and an AA Battery Centre, and is a member of the Motor Trade Association (MTA).
A general repairer, Guthrie’s Auto Care provides a wide range of manual and automatic servicing and repairs with an emphasis on servicing and preventative maintenance and Warrant of Fitness repairs.
They also provide specialist services. The advanced workshop equipment includes an Automatic Transmission Flush Machine to help keep automatic transmissions clean and in fantastic working condition; a coolant recycling system/flushing machine, and a Power Steering flush/fluid change machine.
Joining the Automotive Solutions Group
John began his automotive technician’s (mechanic’s) apprenticeship in 1978 with a Nissan/Holden franchise. In 1984 he moved to Guthrie’s as a senior technician, buying 50% of the business the following year. In 2004 John and Christine became full owners of the business when they bought John’s business partner out.
Guthrie’s Auto Care joined Automotive Solutions in 2010. John and Christine had heard great things about the group and as business owners appreciated the idea of networking, information sharing, and inter-city referrals.
The Team
Guthrie’s Auto Care started as Guthrie’s Motors with a staff of two. In 1997 Guthrie’s moved to another building in the block and changed its name to Guthrie’s Auto Care Ltd. Since then the staff has grown to eight.
John and Christine own the business. The office is superbly staffed by Diane, the Office Manager, and Leanne, the Receptionist.
The workshop team of five includes the technicians (mechanics) Paul, Neville and Rob. Aaron is the Apprentice, and Johnny is the Lubrication Technician.
In 2010 two of the team at Guthrie’s Auto Care won two top awards at the Motor Trade Association Wanganui annual awards in May 2010. Office Manager Diane Hay won the award for Top Administrative Business Leader, and mechanic Paul Rod won the award for Top Technician.
John says the awards were well deserved by Diane and Paul, and are a testament to the great quality and professionalism of all his staff from the office through to the workshop.
