Automotive Solutions began in the late 1990s when a group of repairers wanted to make sure independent owners in New Zealand were able to compete in a tough industry.

Phil Smith, a respected mechanic in Waiau Pa, looked around for a brand or group to join – something that would give his auto repair shop a strong national identity.

Phil ran his idea past fellow mechanics and business owners, Morgan Verhoeven, Peter Jones, and Mark Nottingham. All were keen to be involved.

"There was nothing in New Zealand that filled the gap, so we decided to create something," says Phil.

"Instead of a franchise we wanted to have a group of independent owners, with a national brand, that the motoring public recognised as a leader in the field."

Since then, Automotive Solutions has grown to more than 30 members around the country.

"Each one of us is committed to providing great service to our local communities and people who are new to the area, as well as motorists passing through town who run into car problems."
